Mercedes Lovie, Ed.D. is the Associate Superintendent of Oceanside Unified School District, serving more than 15,500 students. A leader in instructional innovation, organizational improvement, and emerging technologies, Dr. Lovie directs Oceanside's Artificial Intelligence Strategy Initiative, advancing the ethical and human-centered integration of AI in teaching, professional learning, and district operations to improve efficiency and student outcomes.Dr. Lovie began her career as a teacher in a culturally and linguistically diverse California school district and has since served as a curriculum specialist, professional coach, county office leader, central office administrator, and principal at both the elementary and secondary levels for 11 years. She also serves as an adjunct professor in the Educational Leadership Program at the University of Southern California (USC).Under her leadership, Oceanside Unified has tripled its College and Career Readiness rate by expanding Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways, increasing a–g completion, and growing Advanced Placement enrollment by 10%. She established San Diego County's first Cybersecurity CTE pathway and launched a dual enrollment partnership with the local community college, enabling students to earn up to two years of UC/CSU-transferable college credit before graduation.Throughout her career, Dr. Lovie has secured more than $43 million in federal grant funding and championed equity-focused initiatives that strengthen student achievement, organizational effectiveness, and leadership development. Her commitment to data-driven decision-making, effective organizational systems, and equitable practices has also contributed to increasing opportunities for women in educational leadership throughout her district.
