Dr. Karla V. Estrada has dedicated over 25 years to advancing educational excellence and opportunities for students. A proud graduate of Los Angeles Unified School District, she recently served as its Deputy Superintendent of Instruction, leading a team that accomplished three consecutive years of significant academic growth for all students and surpassing pre-pandemic levels of performance by focusing on achieving the educational outcomes for the over 460,000 diverse students in the Los Angeles community.
Dr. Estrada’s journey is both inspiring and personal. As the daughter of immigrants and a graduate of an alternative education program who once experienced homelessness, she understands the transformative power of education. Her experiences have fueled her deep-rooted belief that every student can achieve greatness when given the right opportunities.
Dr. Estrada has previously served as the Chief Academic Officer for the national organization Council of the Great City Schools and the Deputy Superintendent in Boston Public Schools. As the Deputy Executive Director with the statewide public agency California Collaborative for Educational Excellence, she advised and assisted local educational agencies in special education and academic improvement. Throughout her career, she has been a steadfast advocate for attaining results through equity, access, and excellence in education.
